Joe Marler and James Haskell have both been added to the England training squad despite missing the first two six nations matches through injury.
Haskell who was banned after a high challenge on Jamie Roberts and took a 4-week suspension, will join Marler who was banned for 6 weeks for making contact with the head, with his shoulder at a ruck against Sale in the Aviva Premiership.
Both players have been regular features of the Eddie Jones team and whilst the news is not surprising some will have been wanting to see new faces on the scene. Both now have a big challenge ahead of as the media will follow their every move when they do make a return to the match day squads.
Marler has received criticism for his lack of composure, with the worry from an England point of view being that the opposition will be targeting him to get a reaction from the Quins prop. If the 6 nations turns out to be an all or nothng final game against Ireland it could be a true test of his nerve as the Irish will be trying to get to him that’s for sure.
Haskell has shown glimpses of getting back to form this year, but does he deserve the call up? I think like most things Eddie is building a team and a big personality like Haskell is clearly something Eddie Jones thinks is of benefit to the squad as a whole.
