Seattle Seawolves 15-19 Glendale Raptors
The Glendale Raptors made it 2 straight wins as they defeated the Seattle Seawolves in a soaking game. It was a tight affair against two of the strongest packs in the competition, but the Raptors made the most of oppurtunities and took the game 19-15.
With the game fairly even in the forwards it was the backs who needed to make the difference. Glendale forced the Seawolves back with a game based around field position. This with the ability to extract points from Seattle when were disorganised ultimately cost the Seawolves.
Houston SaberCats 50-38 Austin Elite Rugby
Houston got themselves a win against Austin, scoring 7 tries as they racked up 50 points in their first home game of the season. Houston worked well with the ball to open the scoring with scrum-half Connor Murphy going over from close range.
The SaberCats then put together phase play, pulling in defenders before finding space out wide to get another try. The home side racing into a 17-0 lead at 20 minutes after Elite gave away a penalty.
Austin pulled this back to a 7 point lead pulling into half-time. After the break Houston started in dominant fashion and took 3 tries in 10 minutes. But again Austin pulled back the lead and with 20 to go it was 36-24.
Another two tries including a stunning effort from former NFL running back Joey Iosefa, after leaving a trail of defenders in his wake he carried another one on his back as SaberCats pulled well away from Austin.
Austin pulled this back to 50-38 at the final whistle with the away team never giving in on a hot day. But Houston will be happy to get a win on the board.
